Where to play pickleball in Grimes.

The short version
Outdoor courts

Where are the public pickleball courts in Grimes?

Two city parks have outdoor pickleball courts, and both are free and first-come. We found no court reservation system on the city site, so you just show up and rotate in.

Lions Park

The city lists pickleball courts at Lions Park along with an open shelter with electrical outlets, two grills, four picnic tables, a playground, and green space. TrailLink puts the park's parking at NE 5th St and NE Little Beaver, right on the Lions Park Trail, so you can bike there. The city does not post a court count for this park.

Grimes South Sports Complex

The 45-acre South Sports Complex is the bigger setup. The city lists two pickleball courts and one tennis court, plus three sand volleyball courts, two basketball courts, soccer fields, the skate park, walking trails, two concession stands, restrooms, and 487 parking spots. The James Street Trail from Urbandale ends across 6th Street from the complex, and TrailLink lists the complex at 750 James St. The city page does not mention court lights, so plan on daylight play.

Are there pickleball leagues or lessons in Grimes?

We did not find a city-run pickleball league or lesson schedule posted for 2026. Grimes Parks and Recreation runs its adult programs through the city's online Rec1 catalog, so check there or call 515-986-2143 before the spring season. Ohana does not list leagues or lessons on its pickleball page either. For the full park roster, see our parks guide.
