The Grimes Brief
The Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District spans both Dallas Center and Grimes and serves roughly 3,500 students from preschool through 12th grade, a number the district says is still growing quickly. The district website is dcgschools.com.
The district also runs preschool and transitional-kindergarten programs. For every no-school day, early out, and break this year, see our DCG 2026-27 school calendar.
Dallas Center-Grimes High School competes as the Mustangs, in red and white, as a member of the Little Hawkeye Conference. We track Mustangs scores and schedules in the weekly Brief, and we always confirm the venue, since a home date on one schedule can be an away game once you check.
Not all of Grimes is DCG. The northeast edge of town, toward Johnston, falls in the Johnston Community School District. If you are house-hunting, confirm the school assignment for the specific address rather than assuming it by the city name.
The Grimes Brief follows DCG news, board decisions, and Mustangs sports, free every Monday.
