The Grimes Brief
Beaver Creek Golf Course (the course's own site calls it Beaver Creek Golf Club) is a public course at 11200 NW Towner Dr, off Highway 141. It has 27 holes of bent grass laid out as three nines (an East, West, and South nine), each with its own design. The East and West nines opened in 1991, and the South nine was added in 2000. The South nine has an island green. There is a driving range to warm up on, and it plays as the go-to round for Grimes golfers who want a full day without leaving town.
These are the course's posted 2026 summer rates, before 7% Iowa sales tax:
Junior rates apply weekdays before noon and weekends after noon. Season passes are weekday only (Monday to Friday): $1,075 walking or $2,125 riding for an individual under 60, and $875 or $1,925 for seniors 60 and up, with couples passes too. Groups of 13 or more can book tee times up to four weeks ahead through the golf shop.
Yes. The men's league plays Wednesdays with a 5:30 nine-hole shotgun start: two-man teams, match play, points all year, and a playoff, over 18 weeks through the end of August. The women's league plays nine holes Thursdays after 4:30 p.m. with a different game each week. The course also invites groups to start their own neighborhood or corporate league. Afterward, the air-conditioned clubhouse has burgers, smoked pulled pork, deli sandwiches, beer, and mixed drinks, with an outdoor deck over the course. A beverage cart works the course too.
Inside Polk County's Jester Park on the west shore of Saylorville Lake, at 11949 NW 118th Ave, Granger (515-999-2903). It has an 18-hole championship course that plays 6,902 yards from the back tees, a 9-hole par 3, an 18-hole mini golf course, and a practice facility. Posted 18-hole rates are $31 walking or $49 with a cart Monday to Thursday, and $40 or $58 Friday to Sunday. The par 3 is $14 walking and first-come, which makes it the easy pick for kids and beginners.
McDivot's Indoor Sports Pub, 3390 SE Crossroads Dr, Suite 100, is the winter option. A 2022 Des Moines City View review described four HD simulators that play real courses such as Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines, plus pizza and a bar. We could not confirm current hours or simulator rates, so call ahead.
If you would rather throw than swing, the city's free 18-hole Glenstone MultiGolf Park plays as disc golf, foot golf, or park golf with a club and wiffle-style ball. For the rest of the outdoor slate, see our things to do guide.
Beaver Creek if you want to stay in town, play a different nine each week, or join a league. Jester Park if you have a beginner, a kid, or a short evening, since the par 3 and mini golf take the pressure off.
