Destination Grille (2491 E 1st St, 515-355-1153) calls itself a contemporary, upscale, and family-friendly restaurant. The menu runs from steaks, seafood, and pasta to burgers and pizza, with a weekly special for every day. Its own site says the menu is extensively gluten-free, and it takes reservations by phone or OpenTable. It also has a rooftop terrace and private event spaces.

What you do have: Uptown Bar & Grill has run a Sunday breakfast (confirm it is still on); Heavenly Delights (105 E 1st St, 515-249-9602) is a bakery for pastries; Caribou Coffee (825 NE Gateway Dr) and Lightbrite Coffee (1895 SE Grimes Blvd) cover coffee and a bite; and McDonald's (101 SE Gateway Dr) and B-Bops (251 NE Cypress Dr) handle the quick option.
